The University of Pardubice is one of the medium-sized public schools of the university type with a multidisciplinary structure. Over time, it developed from a former college of chemical specialisation (1950), and later, it transformed into a university (1994), both by establishing new faculties with different disciplinary focuses and by the unique integration of a private university into its structure (today’s Faculty of Restoration). At present, the University of Pardubice consists of seven faculties, listed chronologically in respect to their establishment: Faculty of Chemical Technology (1950); Faculty of Economics and Administration (1991), Jan Perner Faculty of Transport Engineering (1993); Faculty of Arts and Philosophy (2001); Faculty of Restoration (Litomyšl) (2005); Faculty of Health Studies (2007) and Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (2009).

The creative scientific activity of any institution is the result of many actors and synergies. In terms of long-term publishing in internationally respected publishing media, involvement in national and international scientific projects and the creation of independent scientific schools in cooperation with PhD students and younger colleagues at the University of Pardubice, several areas of scientific interest can be identified (broken down according to the Detailed FORD OECD Frascati manual), which represent the main development trends. This list provides brief profiles and characteristics of these.
